Birch Harbor, the Anvil, and Buck Cove Scenic Drive – Acadia National Park, ME

  • Post category:Maine / Trails

On June 15th 2024, we were able to take in the Birch Harbor, the Anvil, and Buck Cove Scenic Drive Trail. This section of Acadia National Park is about an hour drive from Bar Harbor Island. This part of Acadia is a lesser known part of the park. Unfortunately, It was our last stop in Acadia for us.

When we first arrive I drove the wrong way but didn’t know it until a few miles in. It started off on a two lane road and then suddenly there was the exit of the park and to road turned one way. So we had to turn around and drive back the other way. Eventually we got to entrance of the park after about 10 minutes or so.

First we came across a beautiful light house that looked like it was on an island. I believe the lighthouse is called the Winter Harbor Lighthouse.

The best part of this side of the park and maybe even all of Acadia is Schoodic Point. There was plenty of parking at the point. We found that it was a beautiful area where the rocks meet the sea. The rocks were smooth and easy to walk over and sit down on. The views of the ocean, rocks and mountains from this point are absolutely amazing! There was plenty of room for everybody there. In fact, I was able to walk down to near the edge of the rocks and just watch the ocean crash against the rocks. It was quite spectacular.

All in all the drive was only about 13 miles long and not crowded at all. I would recommend to anybody visiting Acadia National Park that this part of the park is an absolute must see.
