Tonto Natural Bridge State Park – Pine, AZ

Tonto Natural Bridge State Park is located near Payson, Arizona and would make a good detour when traveling between Flagstaff and Phoenix. This state park has amazing views above and below the Natural Bridge. It is a natural wonder and absolutely amazing and worth the detour. It even has its own climate inside and it was actually raining underneath the bridge but sunny outside. There are 4 trails within the state park (Pine Creek Trail, Waterfall Trail, Gowan Trail and Anna Mae Trail).
We hiked the Pine Creek Trail, which is a 1.1 mile loop with very difficult climbing. Unfortunately, not recommended if you have any type of leg or health problems. As stated before the trail is difficult climbing, not because of elevation changes but the trail is so rocky. To guide yourself just look for the yellow painted arrows or signs on the rocks. If you get hot while on the trail just walk in the water. Actually that might be the easiest thing to do until you see the trail go back up the hill to the parking lot.

According to the Arizona State Parks website, Tonto Natural Bridge is the world’s largest travertine bridge and can be seen from several viewpoints throughout the park.

If you live in Arizona or are going to visit the Payson area anytime you better be sure you check this place out. We were even lucky enough to see some Wild bore.
The park also has plenty of room for kids to play and throw frisbee as well.

Before visiting, check out the AZ Parks website to ensure the park will be open and their operating hours for the day. Plan on spending a few hours here and bring plenty of water and Gatorade.

Cost: $7/adult
