The North Pond Trail is located at the Pea Island Visitor Center. You will find the trail head at the far side of the parking lot. The trail is 1.2 miles long and is very easy to walk. If you are a bird watcher this is the trail for you!
First you will come across a small turtle pond on your right. There you will see many turtles. Including one that I named Roger. He was there to greet us and say hi. See Roger below.
The next phase of the trail takes you through the beautiful forest where you will walk underneath beautiful plants and trees. As shown here:
The third and final phase of the trail brings you out into the open. During this phase you will be in between two beautiful bodies of water. You will hear the birds sing and the fish jump as you walk along the trail. You might even meet Ernie and Shirley. Ernie and Shirley were two beautiful ducks that walked up ahead of us for a few minutes. Meet Ernie and Shirley:
Lastly, you will come to the two story viewing deck where you will have a wonderful panoramic view from all sides. You will be able to see the Atlantic Ocean and the sound as well for one heck of a view.
Finally, if you are planning on visiting Pea Island near Nags Head. Make sure that you visit the North Pond Trail. You certainly will be glad you did.
For lunch or dinner, check out Sam & Omie’s in Nags Head!
