There are plenty of things to do around Lookout Mountain for nature lovers! We decided to go the free route and not pay an arm and a leg for the paid attractions this time. Since we have the National Park Service annual pass, this made it easy. Our first stop was at Cravens House. We explored the grounds and monuments. This site is free and open to the public even though it’s part of the NPS. There were some trailheads at this site, but we decided not to hike here.

We then continued up the mountain to Point Park, part of the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. There is a $10 per person entrance fee (free with the America the Beautiful pass). The views here are beautiful and worth the drive up the mountain.

The Point Park Trails Loop can be found on the Alltrails App here: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/tennessee/point-park-loop

The trail is a little over a half mile long and is an easy walk. The trail is paved so there is no rocks or roots to walk over and around. I started off by going counter clock wise. As soon as you start the trail you notice that there is a large open area were you can get get some beautiful pictures overlooking Chattanooga. There are also two small cannons on the left side of the trail that can be used for fabulous photo ops.

Although, the second loop on the backside of the trail is a bit harder as there are several steps to walk down and back up. It is absolutely worth it though. Around the back side of the second loop is a small museum that talks about the Civil War battle on Lookout Mountain. Outside of the museum there is a large area to take photo ops. The views are absolutely spectacular. I had an amazing view of the curve in the Tennessee River and downtown Chattanooga as shown as the featured image of this blog.

After climbing back up the stairs, which wasn’t that many. I started off to the right again and came across the western view from Lookout Mountain. This part of the trail is less crowded. It provided me with beautiful views across the Cumberland Plateau. I could see so many mini mountains and valleys across the landscape. Check out what I saw:

You are ready to go to Lookout Mountain now aren’t you. You’re Welcome!

While in the area check out the Russell Cave National Monument located about an hour west of Chattanooga. Here is our blog about it: https://iveysadventures.com/russell-cave-national-monument/
