Spanish Mount Nature Trail in Edisto Island, SC is located inside the Edisto Beach State Park. Located off of Highway 174 it is in the first park entrance about a half mile before the beach. Living just 15 minutes away, this is one of our favorite trails to hike in the area. On hot summer days there is enough shade and breeze blowing to make it tolerable. Just bring bug spray. In the winter time the weather is usually perfect.
Trail is about 3.2 miles long out and back. We usually stop on the walk bridge to take a few pictures and take in the tidal creek views.
As with most trails in the Lowcountry the trail is nice and flat without any elevation changes. There is a few roots to watch out for but nothing severe. The trail wanders through the pines, oaks, and palms which makes for stunning scenery. There is an abundance of birds year round to make for some very nice birding opportunities. The trail is never crowded so its peaceful and tranquil as well.
There is a an area to stop along the curve of the creek about three quarters of the way down the trail which makes for stunning views as shown here:
At the end of the trail there is a little fenced in area with stunning views of the creek and information regarding the history of the land. We usually spend a few minutes just taking in the sun and the views at this point.
