Bass Harbor Head Light Trail - Acadia National Park, ME

On July 15th 2024, we got to experience the Bass Harbor Head Light Trail. Bass Harbor Lighthouse is one of the main attractions of Acadia National Park and it does not disappoint. This particular trail is a little different than most as the parking area is actually in the middle of the trail. The trail is only .4 miles long in length, but part of it is very steep.

To start we went to the left which has a very steep descend down the steps into the rocks below on the edge of the cliff. Unfortunately, this portion of the trail can only be accessed if you have an able body as it is very steep and can be quite treacherous once you reach the rocks. The views from here are flat out incredible! If you keep walking down the rocks you can get amazing views of the lighthouse. This is the angle that a good portion of Acadia National Park postcards come from. The next time we go back to Acadia I want to go in the evening near sunset as the view of the light house from here at sunset is stunning.

My wife was too nervous to keep walking on on the rocks. So we just sat on the rocks and took in the beautiful view of the blue water below. I could have sat there for hours, but we needed to go see the lighthouse up close and personal.

So then we had to make our ascend up the steep steps to get back to the parking area. From there there was a sidewalk to take us down to the light house. This part of the trail is smooth and can be accessed by wheelchair if you need it. From here we were able to take in more amazing views and check out the light house. We certainly enjoyed this stop in Acadia and will definitely make this stop again on our next trip to Acadia.
