Today, June 14th, 2024 we decided to hike the Cascade Overlook Trail on our way in to Acadia National Park. I chose this one because it was a short trail that didn’t have too much elevation change. This way it could be a little warm up trail for us before we enter the park. We also had an 11:30am reservation for the Cadillac Summit so we didn’t want to get too far into the park. Nor, did we want to start a longer trail because of time. No, we didn’t get an early start this morning. Early starts are a little tough with a baby, especially after a long day of travel before getting to our cabin.
The trail itself was slightly off he beaten path. It’s also not in the National Park so this trail will not get the attention or traffic that most trails in the area get. There was ample parking on a gravel lot and we were the only car in the lot. The trail started off looking a little rough as it was a little overgrown and then there was a tree or two that had uprooted causing some damage to the trail. Once we got past those trees though the trail started to get quite good. We passed over one creek that we had to hop over a few rocks to get over. Which, I always enjoy a little rock hopping. Cassie, on the other hand isn’t a rock hopper.
The trail is only about a half mile out and back. The Cascade’s at the end were small and nothing special, but very pretty nonetheless. It was a great trail to get started with. However; if I was on a time crunch I would recommend skipping the trail. There are plenty of other great trails in the park to choose from.
If you are in the area and would like a quiet trail not in the park then this is one is for you. See it here on the Alltrails App: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/maine/cascade-overlook
