There are several different choices of trails to choose from at Graveyard Fields. I decided to do the 1.3 miles Graveyard Fields Loop Trail. I went clockwise around the trail so that my hike back up would have stairs and finish at the restrooms.

As I started down the trail in the beginning I noticed a funky smell. I checked my shoes to see if I had stepped in something. Thankfully no, but what else could it be? I’m not 100% certain, but I believe it may have been the short wavy trees that I was walking past along the trail in the beginning. On the back side of the trail once you get out of these particular tree’s you don’t smell it anymore. I think I’ll just call them stinky tree’s, but anyhow they were very pretty though.

I came across a few spots with some mud, but I was able to get around it because of the rocks along the way that I could step on and get over the mud with. Otherwise it was a very easy trail to hike as there wasn’t much elevation change until then end when you have to climb back up. There was several wooden bridges throughout the loop that made for some pretty pictures.

Toward the end of the loop is where I came across the falls. You can walk out into the creek on big boulders yourself that make for some fun hiking and pictures. I also enjoy listening to the sound of the creeks and this one is no different. Throughout the trail I had panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Which was especially beautiful this time of year because of the fall leaves.
