Let’s start off by stating that Mission BBQ in Mason, Ohio was very impressive. When we first walked into the restaurant there was a line of about 10 people so we figured that it may take some time to get our food, but we were proven wrong. The line went fairly quickly, which was a great start. We selected a table and acquired our condiments then suddenly we heard our name called already. To my surprise as I walked up to the counter to get the food (with several items of condiments) in my hand the employee said “where are you sitting? I will follow you.” This isn’t the kind of service we were expecting, but we greatly appreciated it.
Food:
Finally, the best part was the food no doubt. Cassie ordered a pulled pork sandwich XL Combo with peach cobbler and Tim ordered the pulled chicken sandwich XL Combo with fries. The fries were salted perfectly and the meat was oh so very juicy. It’s hard to come across juicy pork even in BBQ restaurants, but Mission BBQ succeeded. The chicken was some of the most juicy chicken that we have ever had. My Michelob Ultra loving father told us that they have Michelob Ultra on tap, which is a rarity. I’m not much of a beer drinker, but I thought I’d give it a try. Well, my father was disappointed as the cashier informed us that they had quit serving beer about two weeks before we ate there.
Sauces:
As far as the BBQ sauces go themselves Mission BBQ has 7 different sauces to choose from. There were six on the table in a cady labeled extremely well so that you know which was which. The one Cassie chose (which was the Georgia Mustard) was located in the condiment section. Being from South Carolina Cassie is all about the mustard style; although Georgia style is slightly more runny than South Carolina style. I chose the Smokey Mountain style which is to be expected as I am from East Tennessee. We both absolutely loved the sauces we chose, but we need to go back to try the others. Some of the other sauces they had were: KC Classic, Texas Twang, Memphis Belle, Tupelo Honey Heat and Bay-B-Que.
Currently Mission BBQ is currently located in 19 states throughout the United States, and is a huge supporter of our Nations military. I thought it was super cool that they have a plaque out side of the restaurant entry way stating that they proudly serve those who serve, with a dedication to September 11th, 2001. This really makes me appreciate Mission BBQ as a company. Much of the inside of the restaurant is decked out with military and first responder badges and memorabilia. I thought that was awesome! My personal favorite was the football unforms on the wall from the four major military universities. See picture below:
