Montezumah Castle National Monument is a bout a 55 min drive from Flagstaff, Arizona. Montezumah Castle National Monument is located in Camp Verde, AZ. Camp Verde is about 20 minutes south of Sedona, 1 hour 30 min north of Phoenix, and about 45 minutes south of Flagstaff. The Monument cost $10 per adult to get into, but of course we have the National Park America the Beautiful Pass so we got in for free. (Here is the link to the pass if you want one yourself: https://shop.usparkpass.com/products/america-the-beautiful-national-park-pass)
It is amazing how people from back in the 1400s can build into rock like that. There is also a beautiful creek running alongside the monument. After you leave the castle you must take the 11 min drive to Montezumah Well. In Rimrock AZ. Montezumah Well is totally fee free. It has a little bit of a climb to reach the top to look over the well. The well is water that is being pushed up from beneath the ground. The well is fish free as there is too much Carbon Dioxide in the water for fish to live. However there are 5 species in the well including a shrimp like creature that can be found no where else in the world.
After you walk around the top of the well you should take a walk down the the creek and you will be able to walk to a point where there is water from the well seeping through rock down to the creek. It is quite amazing and beautiful.
Another National Monument in Arizona to check out is the Walnut Canyon National Monument
