The Oconaluftee Park Path is an absolute Gem right in the heart of Cherokee North Carolina. This path is about 1.5 miles long. It only took us 29 minutes to walk around it. That is with stopping several times to take pictures as well. We have wanted to stop at this park many times over the years of coming to Cherokee, but this is the first time that we actually did. The park can be quite busy in the summertime, but on this beautiful fall day there was plenty of parking.
We parked at the main entrance, but found as we walked along the path that there are other less crowded access points along the path that you can park at. During the summer all three may get full quick so come to the park early.
At the main entrance are some restroom, but bring patience as they are small and can get backed up. The first thing we saw as we walked into the park was this beautiful walkway bridge:
On the other side of the bridge we had a choice to go right or go straight. We chose to go right and go counter clock wise around the Path. In the summer we remember seeing many families at the park swimming in the river. This time the river was quiet with only a fisherman or two wading in the water. This made for great pictures such as:
We can say with most certainty that this was 29 minutes well spent. The views of the river and surrounding mountains were absolutely beautiful. Here is our favorite shot:
