Rio De Flag South Trail – Flagstaff AZ

The Rio De Flag South Trail should take you between an hour and a half to two hours to complete. It is 4.2 miles long. You can start in different areas that will affect the climbs. Starting counter clockwise on the trail, you will immediately climb 600 feet. This the only climb you will have though. If you go clockwise you will have a slow and steady climb on the west side of the trail. I parked on top of the hill of a nearby community once and had a severe climb back up. I recommend going counter clockwise around the trail so that way you can get your climb out of the way first thing. Also, this route will give you wonderful views of the San Francisco Peaks.
While on the trail you will have nice views of the Rio De Flag. You will see plenty of wildlife including, chipmunks, squirrels, prairie dogs and many birds.

The trail is not well marked, so make sure to use your ALL TRAILS app. The All Trails app will have a map for you to keep track of your speed, time and distance while on the trail. The west side of the trail is along the Arizona Trail so there are no problems with trail markings on that side.
Overall this trail was beautiful, but I can only give this trail 3 out of 5 because of the trail being unmarked. This article was written in 2016, so hopefully the trail will get better markings.
