Stono River County Park in Johns Island, South Carolina is one of our go to trails in the Charleston area. We live about 20 minutes away so the trail is in close proximity to us. On the Alltrails App the trail is listed as 1.5 miles long and is an out and back. The App records it for me as a 1.7 mile trail and actually has a loop on the far side of the trail that goes around an island.
The trail is flat throughout with easy walking. The beginning of the trail is paved. Then there is a boardwalk over to the island. The trail then loops around an island which provides for some amazing views. We once saw a pod of dolphins swimming up the Intercoastal Waterway from one of the viewing areas along the trail. On the island part of the trail the trail isn’t paved, but is nice and flat without many roots for easy walking.
Do note that there is a $1.00 per person fee to access the park. However, we have a Charleston County Park Pass to make it free.
