Another great trail in Flagstaff, Arizona is the Christmas Tree Trail. The parking lot is located right across from Safeway on Highway 89. The trailhead leads to many trails including the Pipeline Trail, Fatman’s Loop and many others.
This trail is a 4.1 mile out and back hike that is a much more relaxed trail than Fatman’s Loop. The trail doesn’t have much of an elevation change and what change it has is slow and steady. The hardest part is actually just getting to the trail from the trailhead. Follow the signs for Fatman’s Loop going to the right and you will run into the trail on the first leg of Fatman’s Loop.
Along the trail I encountered a large fox, some horned toads and many birds. You will walk along the foot of Mt. Elden and the views you will see of the mountain along the trail are absolutely beautiful.
Remember if you want a more strenuous hike choose Fatman’s Loop. If you want more of a relaxing hike then the Christmas Tree Trail is for you.
