We came across the Thomas Hariot Nature Trail in May of 2022. We wanted to stop and check out the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site so that Cassie could get her stamp in her National Park stamp book. Although, it was sprinkling rain we still enjoyed our walk. The trail is about .9 miles long and is a loop.
We wound through the trees and over to the shore of the Albemele Sound, which provided beautiful views. There was a nice area that provided a great view and information regarding shore erosion. It was interesting to find out that the shore used to be a few football fields out in the sound from were we were standing.
Overall, the trail was very easy to walk with very little elevation gain. The trail also had very little in the way of roots to trip you up. Which Cassie is prone to :).
The trail is located on Roanoke Island where the town of Manteo, NC is located. While in the area do make sure you check out the downtown area of Manteo. We most certainly enjoyed our day there.
