Tidebrook Red Trail Loop – Freeport, ME

  • Post category:Maine / Trails

Today June 13th 2024 as a family we got the pleasure of hiking the Tidebrook Red Trail Loop in Freeport, ME. We were on our way to our cabin for the weekend near Acadia National Park and decided to stop in Freeport. I had been there when I was 14, but didn’t remember anything but a Marina and the LL. Bean store. So I decided to stop in Freeport and show Cassie. The whole town is pretty much an outlet mall which is not something you see anywhere else really. Once, we were done shopping we weren’t sure if we were up for even a short hike or not. Thankfully, we decided to go because it was only five minutes from town and the pictures on the Alltrails App looked pretty.

The trail did not disappoint. Yes, the trail is only a half mile long; but the views are breathtaking. First, when you come up to the trail parking you see a sign that says “private drive do not enter.” That is actually the start of the trail though. It took us a few seconds to figure that out as the parking area is small and we didn’t see it at first.

We decided to go counter clock wise around the trail which is what we generally do. The first thing that caught our attention was just beautiful greenery up against the sandy brown trail. Then not very far into the trail we took the left and headed toward the water. We were greeted with absolutely stunning views of the Harraskeet River.

There was an area by the water where Traxton and I got to make Cassie nervous by standing on the rocks. There was also a very small beach near the rocks as well. We did not step foot on it though as it appeared to be quite muddy. We then ascended back up the bluff to the top of the hill. Once we came out of the woods a beautiful meadow appeared mostly to the right. To our left there were still beautiful views of the water and the meadow as well.

After this picture is when the trail turns back to the right. W thene had a short walk back to the car. The trail was quiet as we did not meet any other people on the trail. In the end we were so thrilled that we decided to take the short hike. We certainly highly recommend it to anybody who is traveling through the Freeport, Maine area.
